• #52weeknailchallenge - week 5: Holographic

    Hi everyone!

The good news is that this week I didn't have to work until way past my bedtime. Instead I had to start at 6:00 AM... so I'm still in debate which week was worse ;) But I did manage to find some time to do the next prompt for the 52 Week Nail Art Challenge: Holographic.

Anyone who has been to this blog before knows I love holographic polishes. I absolute love those sparkly, grabby-hands-inducing bottles with their rainbows when the light hits them, so I have plenty of them which makes picking a polish a challenge, to say the least ;) So I decided to go for two, one with large holographic glitters and the other with the velvet-y, glow-from-within, scattered holo finish that I absolutely adore. Combined with some white and black this is the result:

The gorgeous reddish-pink polish you see is Il était un vernis Pink and Nothing but the Pink. I painted my thumb, index and pinky with two thin coats but just one coat is almost fully opaque so I expect this beauty can be used for stamping as well.

The silver in-your-face bling holo is F.U.N Lacquer 24 Karat Diamond and it is THE polish I pull out of my stash when I have to explain what holo is. It's a glittering, flashing disco ball on my nails and even without direct light it's already showing off all sorts of rainbow sparks. It's a clear base stuffed with microglitter so I used a sponge to get it on my nails instead of painting coat after coat after coat to reach full opacity (and I now realize I forgot my peel off base... again...).

To finish my manicure I painted two coats of OPI Alpine Snow on my middle finger, stamped a small swirly image from Lina nail art supplies plate Twirls & Swirls 01 using Hit the Bottle As Black As Night and used a dotting tool to add small accents of 24 Karat Diamond. A generous coat of Seche Vite on all nails and I was ready to start taking pictures.

    indoors, direct light
I know there are people who manage to create the most beautiful photographs of holographic polishes without any sunshine, but unfortunately I'm not one of them so I usually kill any kind of sparkle :( This time I played around with lighting until I managed to take the picture above. It's not doing the polishes any justice but at least I tried, right? And that special glow in Pink and Nothing but the Pink is definitely visible so that's a good thing. I guess I just need to experiment some more ;)

    The stars of my manicure:
F.U.N Lacquer 24 Karat Diamond, Il était un vernis Pink and Nothing but the Pink, OPI Alpine Snow, Hit the Bottle As Black As Night

When I started this manicure I had a vision of a pink and silver decal on my middle finger but while working on the decals I realized I didn't want a design to be the focal point, the polishes deserved the spotlight so I went with stamping. And I'm so glad I did! I love the way my nails look right now and I love this kind of manicure with two accent nails so I'll probably do it over and over with different colors and different stamps... the possibilities are endless! What do you think?

Il était un vernis Nothing But The Pink was bought from The Nailista Shop (now closed).
F.U.N Lacquer 24 Karat Diamond and Hit the Bottle As Black As Night were bought from Hypnotic Polish.

      1. Thanks Andrea! That's the word I was looking for: elegant :)
(although my brother would probably laugh his head of if he heard his sister called elegant... but that's his job as brother, I guess ;)

    3. What a fun mani! 52 week challenge is a fun thing, too, though I very much doubt I'd be able to complete it. :D

      1. Thanks Karen! I figured I'd be able to manage one manicure per week... but it definitely is a challenge some times ;)

    4. I find it sad that we still have to explain what holo is... That being said, I totally get why you reach for 24 karat diamond. It's a beaut. The whole mani is stunning.

      1. Thanks so much, Juanita <3
Hehe, I just blame the mainstream brands. They hardly ever release a holo that's worth the name ;)

      1. Thanks Ithi! Holo and cremes are my two most favorite finishes (I can't pick a favorite, really I can't!!) and since I'm married to the world's biggest enabler who happens to know where my wish list is, I get surprised with beauties quite often :) You're more than welcome to check out my treasures... just come on over ;)
