• #52weeknailchallenge - week 10: Plaid

    Hi everyone!

This week's prompt is plaid and the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of plaid is the blanket my parents used when I was a little girl: soft and fuzzy and with large squares of color. My manicure is an attempt to translate my memory into nail polish. The only thing different is the sparkly accent that wasn't in the original blanket, but I felt my nails needed a little extra ;)

    with glossy top coat

I started out by painting my ring finger with three thin coats of OPI Be There in a Prosecco, a lovely cream colored polish without any orange or peach tones in it. When that had dried I cut off a thin sliver of a kitchen sponge (with a more open structure than the sponges I usually use) and I very carefully sponged a fuzzy vertical and horizontal line on my ring finger using Zoya Flynn, a caramel colored polish. I covered this with a coat of Seche Vite to make sure I had a smooth surface for the next step, stamping two thin lines from MoYou London Holy Shapes 19 using Zoya Veronica, a beautiful deep red. To add a little pizzazz to my "blanket" I added another two thin lines using OPI Love.Angel.Music.Baby, a sparkly gold that dries to a satin finish.

While waiting for my ring finger to dry, I painted two coats of Flynn on my middle finger and two coats of Veronica on my thumb, index and pinky. As usual I finished by covering all nails with a coat of Seche Vite and I was ready to take pictures.

I really liked my blanket-nails but something wasn't quite right... and then it hit me, blankets aren't glossy! So I whipped out my matte top coat (OPI Matte Top Coat) and painted a coat on top of all nails, waited for it to dry and become matte and did a happy dance, THIS was what I was looking for:

And these are the polishes I used:

I usually like my nails (or I wouldn't show them online... duhh) but there aren't many manicures I'm really proud of. However, this one I am really proud of! It turned out even better than I hoped and it looks just like the blanket I remember. It does have a cozy, autumn-y vibe but plaids and blankets are meant to be cozy, right?

What do you think of my take on 'plaid'? And do you have memories of simple things from your early childhood?

Zoya Flynn and Veronica were bought from Pretty Polish.

    3. Such a gorgeous colour combination as always! You know I am a fan of matte nails but I love the glossy version the most, it looks juicy and creamy!

      1. Thank you so much, Ithi! We're exactly the opposite, I guess. I usually love glossy best but this time matte won for me :)
