• Sniffles and sneezes

    Hi everyone!

What do you do when you've got the flu, have no energy whatsoever and feel like crawling back into bed and stay hidden there for at least two months but you don't really want to do that either? I decided to snuggle up on the couch with a large pot of tea (courtesy of the significant other in my life), some cookies (courtesy of the same person), a fluffy blanket and a stack of movies waiting to be watched... and a few bottles of polish and an assortment of nail care related utensils :)

I had to remove my manicure as I managed to get a crack in the nail on my right index finger and I wanted to try and repair it. It sort of kind of worked but I'm still not good at the teabag method so I'll probably file all my nails down to shorties when I get too annoyed by the patch job. Anyway, one movie and some relaxed fiddling later this is what my nails looked like:

    indoors, no flash

I used two coats of Zoya Normani on my thumb, index and pinky, and painted my middle finger with three coats of Catrice Moon Rock 01 Silky Way. I'm not sure if you can see it very well but Silky Way is a pale peach colored shimmery concoction that contains not just normal shimmer bits but also small bar glitter. Fortunately they are quite short, about 1-1,5 mm (so that's about 1/20th of an inch) and I guess either there weren't many of them in the bottle or they were mostly hiding at the bottom so I didn't get to see a lot of them. After everything had dried I tried stamping with Normani but that turned out too pale so I chose a polish that was a bit darker to stamp with, China Glaze Foie Gras and I used an abstract floral image from MoYou London plate Pro XL 24. In real life (as opposed to zoomed in big time on a screen) the stamp looks almost the same color as the other nails so unless you tell anyone, no one will know I used a different polish ;)

I'm not too fond of glittery, shimmery polishes on my nails so after a coat of Seche Vite I dug up my bottle of OPI Matte Top Coat and covered all nails with two coats of the mattifying stuff... and I was surprised at how much I liked Silky Way after that! I really have to remember to mattify those shimmery polishes next time I look at them :)

    The polishes I used:

Catrice Moon Rock 01 Silky Way, Zoya Normani, China Glaze Foie Gras, OPI Matte Top Coat

What do you think? It's another cozy and comfy manicure, I know, but it definitely matches my mood. I can see I have some buffing to do on my index... never knew matte brings out ridges that much! But in real life it isn't so bad so for now I'll just leave it like it is and get back into bed and be properly ill... with a new manicure ;)

Oh, and guess what? I actually remembered to check the open challenges in the SBB Nail Challenge, and Matte was still waiting... so another one is checked off and crossed out. 27 more to go so I'm exactly halfway:

Zoya Normani was bought from Pretty Polish.
China Glaze Foie Gras was bought from Hypnotic Polish.

    1. I can never get the teabag method to work for me, either. It ends up being to bulky or I end up filing it down enough but the it doesn't hold the break because the teabag is too thin. Aargh! So I usually slap a falsie over a break if it's so low down that I can't just trim it. I love the muted colors on this mani- it is very lovely! Hope you feel better soon.

      1. I tried falsies once but I have very narrow, curved nails so they didn't want to stay where I wanted them. If the teabag bumps drive me nuts I just put a bandaid over it until the crack has grown out of the pink part of my nail and after that it's welcome to nub-country ;)

Thanks so much! I'm finally starting to feel a bit better but this is one nasty flu...

    2. I use the tea bag technique in combination with Orly's nail repair kit and an etched glass nail file and, after a couple times going through the process, I think it works pretty well for me. My biggest problem is that it does make my nail thicker and more rigid and that makes me want to bite it more.

I love how soft and elegant your manicure looks. Hope you get to feeling better soon!

      1. I'm going to look into that nail repair kit. I wonder if it's available over here :) Haven't bitten my nails for over ten years now so if there's even a slight chance I might be tempted to nibble I grab a bandaid and cover the offending part!

Thanks Lisa, I'm getting there :)

    3. Oh no, I hope you are feeling better soon! I had the same feeling through most of December/Janurary, just recycling the same flu over and over.. urgh! I am glad Mr Whatsonmynailstoday is taking care of you though :) I also do the same with the teabag method, I can only last so long repeating the process. I recently went down shorter and I'm actually happy that I did. I'd never tell you felt so rotten looking at these naikls, they are absolutely beautiful. Glamorous and elegant, I really love the combinations you put together! <3

      1. Thanks Ithi, I definitely hope so too! Mr WOMNT is pretty good at taking care of me so I'm in good hands (I had him read your comment and I think he was actually quite pleased with his new title). The thing I hate most about this flu is that I'm SOOOOO tired but there isn't much I can do about that so I'll just allow myself to be pampered ;)

    4. I also suck at the teabag thing. I can usually pull it off for a few days (which works if I'm half way through swatching a collection) and then I lose patience and cut my nails. I envy the people who can do repairs and make it not visible.
I LOVE Silky way! But the matte way you are wearing it. It's stunning.

      1. I gave in and ordered Orly Nail Rescue to see if that lives up to all the raving reviews I've read. Stay tuned for my findings once it arrives ;)
Thank you! Mattifying shimmers is my favorite way to wear polishes like that, and Silky Way turned out even better than I expected.
