• #52weeknailchallenge - week 46: Stripes

    Hi everyone!

Quick post for a manicure that was supposed to be quick as well, but took a little longer than expected. This week's prompt: Stripes, and this is my manicure that goes with it:

I started out by painting my thumb, index and pinky with two thin coats of KIKO 332 Dark Violet, a purple creme with a perfect formula. My middle and ring finger were painted with one coat of OPI I Am What I Amethyst (IAWIA), a pale lilac creme polish.

The stripes were done using a dry marble technique by MarineLP that goes like this:
    - paint several colors next and on top of each other on a silicone mat
    - blend them together a bit by going over the same spot over and over again with the polish brush
    - pick up the stripey-blended patch of polish with a stamper
    - carefully "stamp" it on your nails
Of course you have to make sure the brushes are clean before you put them back into the bottle, so make sure to thoroughly wipe them on a paper towel.

I used Dark Violet, IAWIA, OPI Viking in a Vinter Vonderland (a dark purple creme) and p2 Techno Chrome Bright Image (a purple chrome) for my dry marble. As usual I finished with a coat of Seche Vite on all nails.

I've been eyeing this technique for some time so when the Stripes prompt came along, I immediately knew what I wanted to try. I think it worked out alright, but picking up the patch of polish turned out a bit of a challenge: too much polish and it turned into a smoosh, too little polish and it had dried on the mat so nothing was picked up. I managed it in the end but I painted enough patches for at least two full manicures. I think next time I'm going to turn this into a decal and work with that :)

Also, as you can see, my camera totally freaked out when trying to capture my nails. In real life the entire manicure was definitely more blue toned. The colors in the bottle shot are closer to reality but still not 100% and color correcting... ehm... let's just say my skills lack a bit in that department.

But all obstacles aside, I love the result! What do you think? Is this stripey enough? ;)

    1. Woah!! You're a ninja! That looks incredible. I so badly want to try it now but I am not sure I have the courage. This is so amazing especially with the colours you chose.

      1. Thanks! You really should try it. It's way easier than I thought it would be. You just have to figure out the right amount of polish to use... oh, and make sure to use paper towels to wipe off your polish brush so no lint or foreign colors gets in the bottle ;)
