• #52weeknailchallenge - week 2: Water marble

    Hi everyone,

week 2 of the 52 Week Nail Art Challenge is one of the prompts I dreaded the most... water marble! There are some techniques that are terrifying and water marble is very high on that list as far as I'm concerned. I had a really cute design in mind and found the perfect polishes... only to discover they wouldn't spread. No matter what I did (water slightly warmer, cooler, filtered, tap, different cups) I just couldn't get a nice bull's eye. So in the end I just went for different polishes and this is the result:

After I painted my middle and ring finger with one coat of Il était un vernis A Thousand Kisses (a delicate pink polish with subtle holo sparkles and some tiny gold and pink glitters thrown in as well) as base, I dropped polishes in a glass filled with water to create a bull's eye. I used Il était un vernis Radioactive Love (a beautiful dark purple with the most gorgeous velvety looking red-gold holo flare I've ever seen), Il était un vernis Pleased to Sweet You (a glittery lilac holo with unexpected blue shimmer) and, of course, A Thousand Kisses.

I planned to do a flower design but when the bull's eye was finished I really liked the colors as they were so I simply dunked my middle finger in there and ended up with slightly rounded stripes. The same recipe for my ring finger and after that I painted my thumb, index and pinky with two thin coats of Radioactive Love (but I think one coat would be sufficient so it's on my to-stamp-with-list). I finished with a generous coat of Seche Vite on all nails.

Il était un vernis Radioactive Love, Il était un vernis Pleased to Sweet You, Il était un vernis A Thousand Kisses

This should have been a quick manicure but it took me most of the afternoon as I really had my heart set on those other colors and I kept trying and trying to make them work. I'm glad I finally picked these three though, even if they are purple and pink again, as I've fallen head over heels in love with the darkest one, Radioactive Love. I can absolutely see myself wearing just that color as a full manicure, it's THAT beautiful. Also, I felt really smart by not doing any dragged design but use the circles as they were. What do you think? Did I cheat or does this count as a water marble? ;)

Il était un vernis Radioactive Love and Pleased to Sweet You were bought from the creators.
Il était un vernis A Thousand Kisses was bought from The Nailista Shop (now closed).

    1. So I just saw this post on IG and I HAD to get out of bed and come and read your post. This is just the most beautiful thing I have seen in the longest time (Ok maybe since your post last week but still). I can't even tell you how much I love this. The polishes are perfection but it is the combination and leaving the stripes as is that makes this the real winner. Out of the park I tell ya!!!! Man I love it.

Of course you can still join, you can find all the challenges here: https://www.instagram.com/p/BdfRXb3FsFm and you only have to catch up on the first one if you want to do all of them, but doing all isn't mandatory. Can't wait to see what you do with the prompts :)

    3. Water marble is perfect! Looks great. And I really like this purple color, it's mysterious and calm.
