• 52 week nail art challenge - 2: School

    Hi everyone!

The second prompt of the 52 week nail art challenge is School. The first thing that I think of when I think about school is the huge blackboard that was hanging on the wall and the teacher using her pointer to focus our attention on something... or slapping the same pointer against the board if we didn't stop making a ruckus (but that fortunately for both pointer and board didn't happen too often ;) Also, our blackboards weren't black at all, they were dark green and when you held the chalk the wrong way, they produced the most horrible squeaking sound that can still send shivers down my spine just thinking about it!

Since manicures are usually soundless, I left that part out of my highly impractical rendition of the blackboard of my youth:

The perfect blackboard green I used on all fingers is Spell Polish Dark Horse. It's a juniper green polish that dries to the matte finish you see in the picture. It has tiny shimmers in it that make it look like a suede polish and that are uber-gorgeous when covered with topcoat. But since blackboards aren't glossy, no topcoat this time ;) I used three coats to make sure there were no bald patches but if you use a bit more care while applying it, two should be sufficient.

When all my nails were dry, I stamped some school-related images from Maniology (previously called Bundle Monster) BM-H23 and MoYou Princess 12 using a very old bottle of OPI Alpine Snow.

After that I asked my husband if we had any wooden toothpicks as I needed one of them. I guess he is used to me using weird tools while doing my nails because he didn't even ask what I was going to do with it (I wonder if that's a good thing, or actually really bad... hmmm). Anyway, we had some so he got me one, I cut off a bit, dabbed a tiny bit of Seche Vite on it and carefully stuck it to my middle finger. And that was it! No topcoat, nothing! Oh, and some very cautious maneuvering with my camera to take pictures as I didn't want the stick to come off before it was caught on (digital) film :)

As you can probably imagine, this manicure hasn't lasted long but it was fun to try and do something different for a change. I hope you got a giggle out of it too :)

    2. This is genius and it did make me giggle a little bit. I love it!! Our black boards were also dark green so this sent me straight back to school days. Great job!
