What's on my nails today?

last Saturday my husband brought home a little gift to cheer me up: a pretty coral polish called Living Coral. The brand is called Hema, which is a general warehouse chain in the Netherlands (branching out to other European countries) that sells just about anything you can think of (baby clothes, house hold appliances, food, etc.) and that has quite an extensive beauty line that includes dozens of nail polish colors. The quality varies... a lot! Some are fast drying one coaters, others are patchy and streaky and never seem to dry, so let's see in what category the latest addition to my stash falls.

2016 is almost over and I haven't even posted my Christmas nails yet, let alone my New Years manicure! So here's a quick post to show you the nails that I wore during Christmas and the days after that.

I've probably said it before, holidays are always bittersweet for me since my dad passed away in 2011. I love seeing all my family having fun together but there's always this little voice in the back of my head telling me my dad should have been there too, to enjoy the company and see how my nephew loves to play with his big cousins (so cute, those three really are crazy about each other, even though the girls are 8 and 10 years older... or maybe that's the reason they are so patient with that little 2 year old tornado) and feel the warmth and love of being with the people you've been with for your entire life. On special occasions (like my dad's birthday, the day he passed away and Fathers Day) I usually wear classic red nails as my father loved those best so when I was trying (and miserably failing) to think of a design for my holiday nails, my husband asked me why I didn't just do what felt good... and boy, did he get it right again!

After some searching I chose Il était un vernis Pinot Noir, a gorgeous dark red holo that seems to glow from within and is just Christmas in a bottle to me:

I actually wore this manicure for St. Patrick's day. I intended to do some nail art on it, but real life (in this case a week long training at work) interfered so my nails were 'just' beautiful green for almost a week. I could say I was doing a wear test, but I would have had to take more pictures which I didn't so that excuse doesn't work ;)

Anyway, in the picture my nails are painted in three thin coats of a gorgeous green holographic polish called Peridot by Lacquer Lust.

Last week, between blowing my nose, steaming over a bowl of hot water with menthol stuff in it (my mom swears by that remedy and who am I to contradict her) and sleeping, I received a small package with two gorgeous polishes in it and I just had to get up and polish my nails. I mean, just look at the picture... how can anyone just NOT put that on immediately after it arrived? (just don't look too closely at the sorry state of my cuticles... they were sick too ;)

When I was out shopping yesterday, I spotted a new Catrice display in the drug store... yep, the new Nude Purism collection had arrived and it looked gorgeous! Apparently other customers had the same idea as the display was already half empty so I didn't think twice and all polishes came with me :)

this is a day that I should have spent in bed, hiding under the covers and isolated from the rest of the world! Instead I was surrounded by cables, guys who were pulling and pushing said cables, floors that were taken apart to get said cables into the space under the floors and all the other mess that comes with putting in a completely new wired network in our apartment so we can stream high quality movies in any room and watch tv everywhere... don't ask, it's my husbands project! Oh, and guess what? Tomorrow they are going to continue!!

Oh well, at least I managed to free a corner of the table to polish my nails and I was looking forward to working with Zoya Tiana, the pistachio green polish of the Delight spring collection.

You didn't think I had the willpower to NOT try out the new Zoya Delight polishes, did you? :)
I'm working at home today, or rather, studying for an exam so I decided to study a chapter and, as a short break, paint my nails with one of the Delight polishes. I don't know about you but I just can't study for hours on end without breaks so I figured this would be a nice way to get the polishes swatched. I've decided to start with the metallic shimmers: Rayne, Leslie and Daisy.

When I'm in a hurry and I don't have the time to wait for multiple coats to dry but I still want something really pretty on my nails, I grab an a-england polish. The ones I own are without any exceptions perfect one coat wonders which is great when you're in a hurry. Today I'm wearing Her Rose Adagio from the Ballerina collection that was released in December 2013.

Once again I have to apologize for my absence. I could blame it on the absolutely gorgeous polish I'm about to show you and that I did not want to take off, but a bout of the flu had something to do with it as well. I felt so sick I didn't even want to think about painting my nails, and I didn't mind watching the same beautiful nail polish for over a week though but I've been told it didn't suit my slightly green complexion very well :)

I'm talking about Spell Polish - No Place Like Home, a lovely green-teal-purple multichrome that changed to pink and gold and bronze as well. No Place Like Home is part of the Magichromes: Magic Happens collection that was released in September and is still available through the Spell Polish website and various stockists.

I've just received a huge present... a camera!! It's an Olympus E-520 and it looks pretty intimidating with all the different buttons and menu options and lenses so I'm going to have to study the manual... but I already took it for a test run and photographed my current manicure.
