• Friday Triad: inspired by @ladamenails

    Hi everyone!

As May is coming to an end, here's another installment of the Friday Triad manicures. This month I got to pick a manicure for Juanita, Michelle and myself to use as inspiration for our own nails. I chose this beautiful design by Jeanette from La Dame Nails. I love the mix of designs and the shiny foil so I decided to try and incorporate that in my manicure, but I didn't feel like doing animal print. Instead, I opted for flowers and leaves. So without further ado, here's my version:

I started out by painting my thumb and pinky with two thin coats of Cirque Colors Memento Mori, a black creme (and as I own the old version, it smells like lavender and sage 😉). The other three nails were done with two thin coats of Cirque Colors Carpe Diem, the white counterpart of Memento Mori.

When all that had dried, I stamped a floral image from MoYou London Flower Power 24 using Painted Polish Midnight Mischief on the center of my middle finger. I stamped the lines at the sides of the image using Midnight Mischief again with Clear Jelly Stamper CjS-52 Lines, my go to plate for anything that involves lines.

Btw. I recently learned a little trick for picking up lines as straight as possible, and I figured I would share. Instead of picking up the line in a rolling motion from top to bottom, pick it up from side to side. I didn't think it would work but it sure did, and the lines came out nice and straight.

Back to the nails though, I taped off about a third of the nails on my index and ring finger with pieces of scotch tape and stamped small leaves from Lina 4 Seasons Autumn 01, again using Midnight Mischief, on the remaining two thirds and immediately removed the tape. After that I top coated all nails with Seche Vite to protect what I had done so far.

I then taped off the stamped parts of my nails with scotch tape and, one nail at a time, painted foil glue on the remaining bare part, removed the tape, waited for a while until the glue turned translucent and pressed blue Moyra Magic Foil on top. I made sure to firmly rub it until the foil came off and the blue stuck to my nail. I finished off the design by stamping black lines from CjS-52 as a divider between the stamps and the blue. When I was finally done, I painted a coat of Moyra SP Top Coat (a water based top coat) on top of the three middle nails and when that was dry, I finished with a final coat of Seche Vite on all nails.

    The polishes I used:
Cirque Colors Memento Mori, Cirque Colors Carpe Diem, Painted Polish Midnight Mischief

I'm not sure about this one. I loved the inspiration at first sight but I'm not so in love with my own nails. I'm not sure what is wrong but it just doesn't look right. Maybe I should have added the white dots between the blue and the leaves... or go with animal print after all... Oh well, I did get to do a new to me technique (I never used foil like that. In fact, I didn't even know I had foil glue until I discovered a nail foil box I had received as a gift with an order from a store that doesn't even exist anymore... yay for never throwing something out 😉) and I did get out of my comfort zone... way out of it! And as there's always acetone, on to the next!

Oh wait, not right now though... First I want to see what Michelle and Juanita did. Do you think they've been brave enough to use real foil? Or have they been smart and did they use a metallic polish that is so much easier to handle? You can check out their nails here and here.

      1. Thanks! It took ages to complete and I have been wondering why I didn't switch to a metallic polish more than once, but now that I see it again I do like this manicure... a bit 😉
