• My polish, your plate - 7

    Hi everyone!

Another post in the My polish, your plate series. This week Michelle picked the polish and the plate was my choice. Michelle picked a glitter... I'll let that sink in for a while... a glitter! And of course the chosen polish has to be really present in the manicure we do with it so I had to step way out of my comfort zone and finally managed to create this:

I started by painting my thumb, middle finger and ring finger with two thin coats of KIKO Frozen Smoothies 10 Soft Candyfloss, a white polish stuffed to the brim with tiny black specks so the overall look is a soft, pale gray. The other two nails were painted with three coats of golden-green Catrice Million Brilliance 08 My Big Green Wedding, a combination of a sheer yellowish base and lots of different sized green glitters that results in a very metallic but surprisingly smooth finish on your nail.

I continued with the accent nails. First I stamped some pale green leaves as a background image using UberChic plate 13-01 and Cirque Colors Carnegie. My choice for a stamping plate was Hello Maniology plate BM-714, specifically the little, detached flowers on the left. I picked up the image using OPI I'm Sooo Swamped, a grassy green creme polish that, in hindsight, wasn't as opaque as I would have liked.  I removed some flowers from my stamper with a piece of sticky tape as I didn't want my entire nail covered in them.

I knew the moment I saw Michelle's polish I didn't want to use it for the entire flower, so I picked Hema 302 Sunny Flowers and filled in the flowers that remained on my stamper. I then applied a layer of base coat, let that dry for a few seconds and rolled the stamped image on my middle nail. And repeated the process for my ring finger :)

The second last step was using my smallest dotting tool to place little dots of My Big Green Wedding in the centers of the flowers and using a thin brush to nudge stray glitters to the center if they ended up too far from it. As usual, I finished with a coat of Seche Vite.

    The polishes:
Catrice Million Brilliance 08 My Big Green Wedding, KIKO Frozen Smoothies 10 Soft Candyfloss,
Cirque Colors Carnegie, OPI I'm Sooo Swamped!, Hema 302 Sunny Flowers

To call this manicure a challenge is an understatement, but I unexpectedly like the end result! I have to admit I don't look forward to removing three coats of that glitter polish as peel off base coat just doesn't work for me... Oh well, I guess I just have to enjoy this little patch of Spring on my nails until it wears off by itself ;)
