• #52weeknailchallenge - week 16: Zodiac

    Hi everyone!

The prompt for this week is Zodiac. I didn't know much about it, but I knew my sign was Sagittarius aka the Archer. As I have a plate that has a picture of constellations I figured I would be all set. Ha! Not so much! I couldn't get the image to stamp on my nails, no matter what stamper, polish, scraper or technique I used: no way no how, not a snowflake's chance in hell, or whatever phrase you prefer to express total impossibility... So I started googling for inspiration.

I now know my Chinese sign is Monkey (not that that helps much as I don't own any plates with a monkey on them, but hey, I can now make screeching sounds and tell people I can't help it because I'm a monkey ;) and I found that both amethyst and tanzanite are birthstones for Sagittariuses (or is that Sagittarii?). That was something I could work with and this manicure is the result:

I started out by painting my middle and ring finger with OPI I Am What I Amethyst, a pale lilac creme that covered in three thin coats. My thumb, index and pinky were done in two thin coats of the surprisingly opaque Lacquer Lust Tanzanite, a stunning dark, blue-leaning purple holo with a very strong rainbow.

I think I redid the accent nails at least seven or eight times as I first tried to reverse stamp colored-in arrows (failure), double stamp arrows (failure), freehand arrows (huge failure), double stamp arrows in different directions (you guessed it, another failure), double stamp different arrows (yup, failure again), and several different colors to stamp with...

In the end I just stamped arrows from Bundle Monster BM-XL10 using Tanzanite on my middle and ring finger, covered all nails with a coat of Seche Vite and left it at that. I guess it's a good thing OPI bottles are quite large ;)

Here are the two polishes I ended up using:

Not much to say about this manicure. I really like the colors and the holo is absolutely gorgeous in the sunshine but it's just not what I'd hoped this prompt would turn out to be. Oh well, win some, lose some, right?

      1. Looking at them again, I have to admit they are nicer then I thought when writing this post. I had so much more in mind though, but I'm glad you like them :) (oh, alright, I like them too)

    2. I really really love this!! I love that you had the polishes with the names and they go so perfectly together. That holo is just stunning too! It sucks that you had so much hassles with the arrows but I love the final look.
I also had a hard time with this prompt. I tried to freehand the virgo sign (fail), I considered the chinese one too (not happening) and eventually I had to order a zodiac stamping plate and hope it got here in time. Now I am prepared for ANY zodiac :P
