Black and silver skittle

Hi everyone!


Today I'm wearing a black and silver skittle manicure that is almost completely copied from a french blog called Vernis en folie (about 2/3 down the page).

I found the manicure when I was looking for more information on Il était un vernis, after seeing some gorgeous swatches by Marta from Chit Chat Nails.  I didn't know it when I first found the blog but it's written by Bé, one of the geniuses behind the Il était un vernis polish brand! Anyway, I pinned the picture so I would be able to find it again and today I finally decided to recreate it :)

Google Translate did something awful to the post, but I did manage to figure out the black that is used by Bé is Il était un vernis Paint It Black. I don't have that one, so I used OPI Lady in Black (aka Black Onyx) instead. Also I didn't have the image she stamped (would love to know what plate that is on btw) so I used a floral image on a MoYou plate. Oh, and I didn't have black studs either so I made dots using polish.

This is what I did: I started out by painting my thumb, index and pinky with two coats of OPI Lady in Black. My middle finger and ring finger are coated in three thin layers of Il était un vernis Juggling Glass Balls. After that I grabbed a large dotting tool and made a dot with Juggling Glass Balls on my pinky and one in Lady in Black on my middle finger. I took a deep breath, wiped almost all the polish from my brush and added the thinnest of coats of Juggling Glass Balls on my index (I actually had to redo this nail three times until I was happy, each time wiping the brush even more). Last thing I did was stamp my ring finger with Lady in Black and MoYou Pro XL 22 and add a coat of Seche Vite on all nails.

You can't see it very well in the picture but Juggling Glass Balls is a gorgeous scattered holographic. In an attempt to show the rainbows I took a picture with flash with my mobile phone. I hope you can see the beautiful colors that show up when direct light hits this polish.

Juggling Glass Balls is a dream! It's sheer enough to be a topper (as you can see on my index) but three thin coats make it completely opaque. Combined with a thin-to-medium brush, a rubbery cap that was very comfortable to hold, and of course a formula that almost applies itself I can't think of anything that needs improvement for this polish and I can't wait to see what 2015 will bring for the brand (and what damage it will do to my bank account ;)

Last but not least... this is the first manicure I did for the SBBNailChallenge and I think I can scratch out two challenges at the same time: 29 - recreate  someone else's manicure and 37 - skittle.
